Police in Malawi say they have arrested a former justice minister suspected of involvement in the Sept. 13 shooting of the country's budget director, a corruption fighter who was seriously injured and flown to South Africa for treatment.
Police spokesman Kelvin Maigwa said Friday that Ralph Kasambara, a former justice minister, was detained at his house on the previous night in Lilongwe, the capital. Another suspect turned himself over to police in a border district on Thursday.
President Joyce Banda has said the shooting of the budget director, Paul Mphwiyo, was linked to his efforts to fight corruption.
Ralph Kasambara is a Malawian activist, human rights lawyer, teacher. He has served as the Minister of Justice and Attorney General since April 2012.
