ENTERTAINMENT: Africa Intl' Film Festival (AFRIFF) 2013 Debuts 10th November 2013!

AFRIFF is a world class showcase that presents a complete immersion into the world of film making with participation from local and international filmmakers and professionals, celebrities, actors, directors, film critics, buyers, distributors, visual artists, film students, amateurs, equipment manufacturers, and international press. 

Calabar as a social centre, boasts of the first social club in Nigeria, The Africa Club, and hosted the first competitive football, cricket and field hockey games in Nigeria. Among the city's firsts includes the first Roman Catholic Mass (held at 19 Bocco Street, Calabar – 1903) and the oldest secondary school (Hope Waddell Training Institution – 1895) in eastern Nigeria. The School later produced the first President of Nigeria, Nnamdi Azikiwe.

CATEGORIES & AWARDS

The Africa International Film Festival traditionally awards monetary prizes for best Films in the following categories:

1. FEATURE FILM - $6000

2. DOCUMENTARY - $5000

3. SHORT - $3000

4. ANIMATION - $3000

However, in its third season, the stakeholders have decided to expand the awards in certain categories. Consequently, the 2013 festival will
award monetary and value prizes to winners in the following:

c. Best Director

d. Best Actor

e. Best Actress

2. DOCUMENTARY

a. Best Documentary

3. SHORTS

a. Best Short Film

b. Best Student Short

4. ANIMATION

a. Best Animation

5. SPECIAL JURY AWARD for Outstanding Film

6. AUDIENCE CHOICE AWARD

Monetary and Value awards prizes will be announced in the near future.

AFRIFF aims to ensure its rising profile by focusing on festival imperatives such as ensuring quality of films selected, projecting a unique CSR platform, encouraging the best jury selection, broadening its international film Network, leveraging more on its calendar timing, strengthening publicity,
maintaining World Class event management and continue its investment on young talents.
